Switzerland :: Lucerne Switzerland

Lucerne, Switzerland

Lucerne - the city. the lake. the mountains
Lucerne, Switzerland Lucerne is Switzerland: The City - The Lake - The Mountains. Whatever you expect from a unique city, Lucerne will not disappoint you. The avant-garde, in the form of the futuristic KKL Luzern designed by Jean Nouvel, is just as at home here as historic sights which have survived for centuries. The museums, theatres and festivals make Lucerne a city of culture, which elegantly holds its own amongst traditions and trends. Immerse yourself in this town, enjoy the magnificent landscape, stroll along the quays and don't be surprised when you feel you never want to leave. Lucerne's charm is legendary. Lucerne enjoys a magical setting, Clustered on the banks of the Lake Lucern and the River Reuss with Majestic mountains for a backdrop. Its famous covered chapel Bridge, Lion Monument and the vast Swiss Transport Museum together with the unique ambience are well worth a visit.

Festival city
Lucerne's programme of festivals reflects our motto: The City - The Lake - The Mountains. The numerous musical and cultural events held here are just as captivating as the city itself, plus they are easy to navigate and amazingly diverse. Prefer blues or classical? Comics or theatre? It's up to you. Next, the lake, smooth as glass, is representative of the kind of finely honed, refined sounds that have always characterised the Lucerne Festival scene. Then there are the mountains: the Lucerne Festival celebrates music at the peak of perfection. Orchestras and soloists of world renown delight their audiences at the KKL Luzern Culture and Convention Centre, in its magnificent and acoustically pioneering concert hall. When may we roll out the red carpet for you?

Shopping boutique
Lucerne is such a beautiful place to shop. While strolling down the narrow streets that feed our city's airy squares, enjoy the sheer multiplicity of shops and boutiques displaying all manner of exquisite wares - there's surely something to suit everyone. Something typically Swiss? Exclusive watches and jewellery of world renown, attractive fashions and stylish accessories? No problem. Not forgetting Swiss chocolate! Gather your strength for a shopping expedition in any of our many cafés or restaurants (or recover your strength afterwards!) and congratulate yourself on the fact that you don't have to carry what you've bought very far. In Lucerne, everything is to hand, and the old-town centre is car-free. Shopping can't possibly be any more beautiful than this.

Essence of switzerland
Lucerne acts as a gateway to a very special part of the world: Central Switzerland. And when we say Central, we really mean Central. From the historic Rütli Meadow and the perpetual snow on Mt. Titlis to Lucerne's landmark mountain, Mt. Pilatus, and the famous locations on the Lucerne Riviera, everything is within easy reach - even in winter. Mould-breaking designers and engineers gave Mt. Pilatus the world's steepest cog-railway, Mt. Rigi Europe's first mountain railway and Mt. Titlis the Rotair, an aerial cableway with a rotating cabin. Welcome to the heart of Switzerland, the region around which everything else revolves.
