At Kensington Palace you can see magnificent State Apartments and the Royal Ceremonial Dress Collection, including dresses worn by HM Queen Elizabeth II. Set within the tranquillity of Kensington Gardens, this is the most intimate of royal palaces, not simply an impressive stage for the ceremonies of court life but a charming and much-loved home.
Kensington Palace has been a royal residence for over 300 years, and it was here that Queen Victoria was born and spent her childhood. Recently the palace was home to Diana, Princess of Wales. A permanent display of her dresses now adds a contemporary chapter to the Royal Ceremonial Dress Collection, which tells the fascinating story of court dress from the 18th century to the present day. The magnificent State Apartments give a glimpse of court life, with an impressive display of paintings from the Royal Collection, including two Tintorettos.
The Orangery
The Orangery Café and Restaurant provides a wide range of refreshments from morning coffee and light lunches to afternoon tea. A children's menu is also available. All food is home-made daily on site.
Exhibitions & Events:
Diana, Princess of Wales, by Mario Testino
Mario Testino's images taken for Vanity Fair magazine turned out to be the last official portrait photographs of Diana, Princess of Wales. The images accompanied an article published to coincide with the famous auction of 79 of the Princess's dresses for charity in New York in July 1997. Nine of the gowns sold at the auction, including dresses worn for the photo-shoot, are united with Mario Testino's photographs for the first time in this unique exhibition.
Number 1A Kensington Palace
In a series of rooms which were formerly part of Princess Margaret's apartment, a photographic exhibition tells the story of the people who lived in this part of the palace from the 1700s to the 20th century and highlights the work carried out by the Princess and Lord Snowdon to refurbish these rooms. |
