| Milan city tour & Navigli Cruise |
3 hours afternoon multilingual tour. Saturday & Sunday |
| |
Cod.Tour 2 - € 63
A fascinating tour of the “Navigli”
area and nice cruise on the canals.
The origins of the Navigli date back
to about 1100, but this stretch of
water was only made navigable from
the Ticino to the center of Milan at
the end of the 14th century, to help
transport the marble that was needed
to build the Duomo. The Milan
Wharf, an important commercial port
for river transport for many centuries,
was still working up to the end of the
Second World War, and then permanently closed in 1979. |

Verona is one of Italy’s loveliest
towns. A thriving town in its own,
it’s also an appealing tourist destination for weekend breaks. It’s rich in
archaeological sites and has a beautiful medieval centre. The Roman
Arena, where concerts and operas are performed in summer. You can spend
a long time exploring the narrow
streets lined with ‘palazzi’ that make
up the historic centre. The beautiful
lakeside towns around Lago di Garda
have charmed foreign visitors for centuries. Even for the ancient Romans,
the area was a luxury summer destination; in Sirmione and Desenzano
you can visit ruins and mosaics that record their presence. |

| Cinque Terre (Liguria) |
Thuersday |
| |
€138
Boat and train tour in one of the most
beautiful region in Italy (UNESCO
Heritage). ‘Cinque Terre’ means ‘five
lands’, and Italy’s famous Cinque Terre are five perilously-perched villages
strung along a short stretch of cliffs in
Liguria, at the top left of Italy’s boot.
The Cinque Terre stretch of coastline
is a National Park, and a Protected
Marine Area, included on UNESCO’s
World Heritage List. After being placed on a list of sites at risk, the Park
Authority began a longterm project
to revitalise the farming practices
behind the characteristic hillside
terraces, many of which were falling
into abandonment. It also aims at a
sustainable level of tourism, maintaining the character and beauty of the
region. Despite the number of tourists - which is at times overpowering the schemes appear to be succeeding
admirably. There is a real sense of
local identity even in the most tourist-
crammed little ‘piazze’. Restaurants,
bars and accommodation all have
an endearingly homespun air about
them, as though when the locals saw
tourists coming they found a few
garden chairs to stick on their terrace,
handpainted a sign and began serving customers. The Cinque Terre are
(north to south): Monterosso al Mare,
Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore. |

different cable railways take people
from downtown either to the Castle
or to the upper town. Piazza Vecchia,
the heart of the old town, is enriched
by such remarkable monuments as
the Palazzo del Comune or Palazzo
della Ragione, the Cathedral, the Coleoni Chapel and the Baptistery. |
