Corbett National Park
One of India's premier wildlife reserves named after its founder Jim Corbett. It is notable not only for its rich and varied wildlife but also for its scenic charm and magnificent view. Corbett is known as a haven for tigers, however other animals also add to its attraction: such as leopards, jungle cats, fishing cats, Himalayan black bears and elephants. A paradise for nature lovers, the Corbett Jungle Park has 110 species of trees, 51 species of shrubs and over 33 species of bamboo are found here.
Nainital
Set around a small lake, this 100 year old hill station is known for its mountains silhouetted against the sky, streams rippling through the forests and the placid lake reflecting the changing panorama of nature. Called the Switzerland of Asia due to the number of lakes present, it is an excellent spot for boating and fishing. The few places of interest would include the Naina Devi Temple, the Mall Road, the State Astronomical Observatory and the Naini Lake.
Almora
66 kms from Nainital, Almora occupies a picturesque horseshoe shaped ridge. Offering a healthy selection of treks, it combines the pleasures of sightseeing with the spirit of adventure.
Ranikhet
The scattered town of Ranikhet is one of the most pleasant hill stations of Uttaranchal 50 kms away from Almora. Unrivalled for its panoramic view of the western Himalayas, it has the added attraction of ancient temples, pretty picnic spots and idle strolls.
Kausani
52 kms northwest of Almora lies Kausani, a quiet hill resort. Known for the Himalayan snow-capped peaks that stand in a stately row of over 300 metres of majestic glory, one is certain to be dazzled when the sun rays turn the peaks into crimson and gold at sunrise and sunset. The resort is renowned as an ideal place for retreat and holds several ashrams. Influenced by the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi one could still catch the spinning wheel in a lot of homes.
Haridwar
Lying at the base of the Shivalik Hills, the holy river Ganga passes through its last gorge and begins a 2000 kms journey across the plains. One of the seven holy cities of the Hindus, it is believed that Vishnu has sanctified this place by placing his footprint on the river bank. This belief has hordes of pilgrims coming to take a dip in the holy waters to wash off their sins.
Pilgrimage Centres In Uttaranchal
Sacred pilgrimages of different religions including the world famous “Char Dham” or the four Hindu pilgrimage destinations of Shri Badrinath - Kedarnath - Gangotri - Yamunotri; the sacred Sikh pilgrimage of Hemkund - Lokpal, Nanakmatta and Meetha - Reetha Sahib and Piran Kaliyar have drawn pilgrims and seekers for spiritual fulfillment to Uttaranchal. Kailash Mansarovar, Tholingmath are all in the Chinese occupied Tibet, but for the people of yesteryears, these were some of the most important landmarks in Uttaranchal.
